Physical Models

Model 2011

Model 2009

Gutter to Gulf has produced a diagrammatic model that represents relationships among the physical urban systems in New Orleans, including topography, transport networks, water infrastructure, and levees. Like an anatomy model of the human body, this physical model of New Orleans reveals structures and overlaps that are ordinarily hidden by the surface of the city.

The model is constructed in horizontal layers that depict the city’s infrastructure systems and in vertical ribs that relate those systems to topography. Its goal is to coordinate disparate data in three dimensions. Its power as a planning tool is its capacity to describe these systems in a vehicle that is easy to understand.
